Teens from Yonkers, Eastchester, Mount Vernon and other Westchester County municipalities have been busy raising more than $5,000 in donations, which will be used to create a “welcome home” house for a pair of veterans that met overseas while serving their country.

According to Habitat Executive Director Jim Killoran, the teens raised a record number of dollars by selling two by fours after services at the Church of St. Joseph in Bronxville. Those who participated in the fundraising will now take part in the building of the veterans family future home on Saturday, Oct. 18.

“We have thousands of youths who help us, and we encourage every youth in this county to learn to build and help others have a home,” Killoran said. “The youth will help build on a home for two Marines who met overseas in Iraq and now are going to have the ‘American Dream’ because of Habitat of Westchester, and thousands of youth who build and raise support for their homes.”
