Local Authors To Share Tales, Tea in Bronxville

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Authors are often few and far between, but the Bronxville Women's Club is giving community residents an opportunity to meet two local writers in one day.

On Thursday, the Bronxville Women's Club is hosting an afternoon tea and book signing for two of its members, Alexandra M. Burckhardt and Jackie Kingon .

"Everybody adores both Alexandra and Jackie," said Joyce Balint, the club's vice president for communications. "They are both wonderful members who help an awful lot. They're always helping out, they don't just sit back. So it's good to do something for them."

Kingon's book, "Chocolate Chocolate Moons," is a comic novel about a plus-sized woman whose body weight drops from 287 pounds to 47.6 pounds when she wins a university scholarship and travels to the moon.

"This novel is a verbal cartoon for sophisticated readers tired of counting and calories and hungry for a good laugh," reads the book's summary.

Kingon is a professional artist whose writing has been published in several notable publications, including The New York Times.

Burckhardt's book, " Navigate Life's Journey ," gives practical advice and insight on how to cope with life's troubles and joys.

"Navigate your life's journey on the high seas of life with a three dimensional compass of encouragement, enthusiasm and inspiration," reads the book's summary. "Keep your vessel on course with the skillful navigational devices of perpetual hope, trust and divine inspiration."

According to Balint, Burckhardt often writes about etiquette and likes to travel in her spare time.

Balint described both authors as lovely and talented, yet very different from each other. Burckhardt's book was released nearly a year ago; Kingon's is less than a month old.

As the Bronxville Women's Club approaches the end of its fiscal year, the members felt that it was a good time to do membership drive, Balint said. Anyone who attends the book signing can fill out a membership application, if desired.

The book signing will take place Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. The Bronxville Women's Club is at 135 Midland Ave.
