The Eastchester Irish American Social Club (EIASC) announced that Helene Murtha Dooley has been named as the Grand Marshal of the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, with Cathy Doody and Christine Doody-Doherty also being named as honorees for their work within the town.
Dooley’s Irish roots trace back to the 1800s, when her family immigrated to New York from Ireland, where they hailed from Cork and Roscommon Counties on her maternal side, and Athlone in County Westmeath on her paternal side.
For her service to the community, Dooley will be celebrated at the Festival and Installation of Grand Marshal and Honorees along with Doody and Doody-Doherty at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at Lake Isle.
Each of the honorees will be presented with parade sashes at the installation dinner, which the trio will then sport as the toasts of the town at the 12th annual parade, which kicks off at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 13.
The parade will once again start at the Immaculate Conception School, proceeding north on Main Street into Eastchester. At the White Plains Road intersection, the route will continue north to the Lake Isle Country Club for a holiday celebration.
Dooley, who is married to longtime Eastchester Town Councilman Joe Dooley, has served as the Eastchester Middle/High School for 18 years. Her family joined the EIASC in 2001, and she has since been an active volunteer, serving on various committees for the organization.
“St. Patrick’s Day is always a special day for my family, filled with traditional food, music and dance,” she said. “I’m honored to be Grand Marshal and share my heritage with the Eastchester community.”
