Shortly after 7 a.m., Eastchester EMS, the police and fire departments received an emergency call that a woman had just given birth in the back seat of a taxi on New Rochelle Road, where first responders determined that the mother and newborn were in stable condition.

Within three minutes of receiving the call, paramedics and EMTs arrived at the taxi, cutting the umbilical cord and transporting the two to a nearby hospital.

According to a post on Facebook, police officer Nick Lauros - the first at the scene - and other first responders, later visited the family in the hospital where they discussed the whirlwind events of the day.

“People may think that first responders treat every call like just another number and that couldn't be further from the truth,” they wrote on their official Facebook page.

“We got into this field because we care about others and it makes our day when we get the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life. Eastchester EMS wishes the family the best of luck with the wonderful journey they have ahead.”
