Members of the FBI brought a Bomb Robot to the Tuckahoe Boy Scout Pack 7 meeting at the William E. Cottle Elementary School, where they conducted a demonstration using a simulated explosive device.

Last week, scouts were “captivated,” as FBI members maneuvered the robot to move a simulated bomb from a backpack and advised about what steps would next be taken to remove the device from the school.

Joining the demonstration were Boy Scouts from Troop 353 Eastchester and a member of the recently formed Westchester FBI Explorer Post, which serves youths between 15 and 20 who are interested in learning more about the pursuit of a career in law enforcement through training and leadership opportunities.

According to troop leaders, the elite bomb squad operators explained how the sophisticated, high-tech device worked and how it can help save lives in a variety of emergency situations, noting that scouts and parents alive were “totally fascinated by the capability of the equipment.”

“Our Scouting program is very strong,” Pack 7 Cubmaster Stephen Vance noted, citing parent involvement and the cohesion of the community. “Several new scouts have recently joined Pack 7, indicative of the overall upsurge of scouting in the area.”
