Stephens, a partner with Edgewood Management, is a board member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and has been had the disease for nearly 60 years since his birth.

He, along with co-honoree Gerald Klein – president of Mahopac National Bank - will receive the 2013 Breath of Fresh Life Awards.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, nearly 30,000 people in the United States are affected by the disease. Cystic fibrosis used to be a death sentence for patients, but due to advances in medicine and treatment, people can now live well past their 50s.

Renee Brown, chairwoman for the gala, said Stephens and Klein are important to the cause.

“Both Jerry and Nicholas have been extraordinarily effective leaders in their communities in supporting the work of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” she said. “We are very grateful for their continued dedication to the fight against cystic fibrosis and our mission to search for a cure.”

The Spring Fling Gala will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, Conn. Tickets cost $300 and can be purchased online. Sponsorships are available for $250 to $25,000.
