“We are headed to the food bank," one of the girls, Michele and Melissa, said.
The May 18 experience gave the students a firsthand look at the responsibilities of a pastor.
The opportunity was won as an auction item by the girls' parent at an annual fundraiser.
The sisters worked with Village Lutheran Church Senior Pastor, The Rev. Dr. Robert Hartwell, who showed them how to lead a chapel service, read a Bible story to a preschool class, and deliver food to the local food bank.
The day's visits included Wartburg in Mount Vernon to bring flowers and visit with a resident. Also, the girls went to Sinai Free Synagogue and talked about community partnerships with Rabbi Morris Barzilai.
