Bronxville's Star Turn on Real Housewives

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Katie Durfee, 23, assistant manager of Bronxville's Yum Yum Tree boutique, felt uneasy about appearing, even for an instant, on Thursday's episode of "The Real Housewives of New York City."

"Some people just don't like to see themselves in pictures or TV," she said.

The episode, filmed in January, showed Real Housewife Jill Zarin taking a train from Grand Central to Bronxville to visit her daughter Allyson, a Sarah Lawrence student.

"Although it feels like the country, it's not that far," Zarin said about Bronxville.

Mother and daughter were filmed having lunch at the Underhills Crossing restaurant. They then decided to shop at the Yum Yum Tree boutique.

"It was cool to see behind the scenes, how they make the show," Durfee said.

But when the episode aired last Thursday night Durfee ended up missing the only second she popped up on camera, shortly after Zarin and Allyson arrived at the store.

"I didn't want to watch it," Durfee said.

On Saturday, however, she seemed relieved when confronted with a computer screenshot of the scene.

"It's ok," she said. "It could be worse."

She had been worried for no reason. Standing elegantly on the center of the frame, her red-hair head slightly tilted and a pleasant smile on her face, she actually overshadowed a blurred Zarin. At least in that frozen moment, she could well be the star.

But for Bronxville watchers, it was the village itself that was the star. Bronxville's appearance on last Thursday's episode of "Real Housewives of New York City" sparked a rush of tweets. Here are some of them:

"Jill Zarin is such a Jewish mother, taking metro north and shopping in Westchester (minus the Bronxville part)!"

"Also -- when did they movie this shi shi boutique into Bronxville? Please don't tell me it's where the antique book store was."

"Bronxville? Jill Zarin's daughter is a Sarah Lawrence girl? Very interesting."

"Jill Zarin traipsing around Bronxville on RHONYC just made my life. Oh hello there Underhills!"

"Jill Zarin: bronxville is NOT the country! WTH?"

"I'm surprised that Allie Zarin only went a half hour away to Bronxville. In her shoes, I'd move to the West Coast."
