BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Helen Aspden McGuirk, of Bronxville, died Feb. 12 at her family home in Chester, Vt. She was 90.
McGuirk served as a petty officer second class in WAVES, the women-only division of the Navy during World War II.
The daughter of Rev. Donald Minto Aspden and Helen Knight Aspden, she was born Dec. 26, 1921 in Glen Ridge, N.J. McGuirk graduated from Montclair High School and Stoneleigh Junior College. She married Lt. J.G. George Joseph McGuirk, who predeceased her.
During the war, she was stationed at NAS Lakehurst as air traffic controller. McGuirk was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the New England Society.
She is survived by her sons Scott, Bruce and Dwight, her daughters Cheryl, Rosemary, Melanie and Amy, as well as 15 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home in Bronxville. The funeral mass will take place at St. Joseph's Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday. The burial will take place in Chester at a later date.
