The festival is designed to encourage high school students in Fairfield and Westchester counties to express themselves through the art of film. Students submitted their original films earlier this year, with the best selected as finalists.

Topics covered in films include the healing efforts in Newtown, Conn., bullying and partying sober. The free festival will be held at 1 p.m. May 5 in the Cole Auditorium at the Greenwich Library. Tickets can be purchased online.

McCloskey, a student at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, will be competing against four other films in the “Public Service Announcement” category for her pro-reading flick “Reach Out and Read.” Finalists in that category were determined by Fox television personality Gretchen Carlson.

Cory’s film, “What Would Happen If Everything You Touched Turned Into A Teacher,” will compete against nearly a dozen other entrants in the “Creative Category.” Actress Melissa Joan Hart selected the finalists. If she wins her genre, Cory will earn the opportunity to shadow a producer on the set of an upcoming digital comedy web series for Above Average Productions.

Film writer and producer David Levien, who is most well known for co-writing “Oceans Thirteen” and “Rounders,” is scheduled to speak. Other speakers include animator Joe Antonuccio and Island Def Jam Music Group President Steve Bartels.

Cash prizes ranging from $100 to $1,000 will be awarded to genre winners and the Grand Prize winner.
