Bronxville High School students Hana Eddib, Griffin Garbarini, Cindy Kwok, Isabela Lamadrid and Chloe Paris advanced to the statewide competition after finishing among the top teams in the lower Hudson Valley Regional Competition last week.

In total, 43 students from the district competed, with those five earning a gold or silver medal to continue their run toward the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest that will be held from June 12 through June 16 in College Park, Maryland.

Garbarini took top honors in the individual documentary category for his film, “Roosevelt Rondon Scientific Expedition,” with Lamadrid finishing in second place for his research paper “The Globalization of Scottish Trading Culture: 18-20th Century.” Eddib, Kwok and Paris earned second place in the group documentary category for their entry, “The Pahlavi Dynasty: Western Reforms on Women.”

With the region conquered, the students will now advance to the statewide event, where the top two entries in each category will advance to the finals.

According to the district, “National History Day is an academic program that enriches students’ critical thinking, communication, presentation, writing and research skills. Students complete their own in-depth research on a topic, related to an annual theme, and display their work in one of five ways – website, documentary, paper, performance or exhibit. This year’s theme is “‘Exploration, Encounter and Exchange.’”

“We congratulate all 43 Bronxville High School students who competed at the regional competition,” Principal Ann Meyer said. “They presented thoughtful work that required dedication and critical analysis to complete. Good luck to those five students who will compete at the state competition. We are thrilled that in our second year participating in National History Day, our students are able to move to this distinguished level of competition.”
