Hosted by Bronxville's Gramatan Village, Bronxville Rotary, Senior Citizens Council and New York-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital, the Salute to Seniors is a culmination of activities planned to coincide with International Active Aging Week from Sept. 25 through Oct. 1.
The Salute to Seniors starts with an information session from 10:30 a.m. until noon, with informational tables from a variety of agencies that provide services for seniors. The tables will be set up along Pondfield Road near Gramatan Village, 81 Pondfield Road.
Then three local restaurants, Underhills Crossing, Fogarty's and Park 143 Bistro, are offering Silver Plate Lunch Specials that day, organizers said. Finally, at 2 p.m., there will be a public reception to open the Speeders 55+ Art Show in the Yeager Room at the Bronxville Public Library.
This is the second year that the Bronxville Adult School, Bronxville Public Library, Bronxville Senior Citizens and Gramatan Village are presenting this art show as part of the Salute to Seniors festivities. Local artists over the age of 55 will showcase works in a variety of mediums.
The reception includes light refreshments and a free raffle, organizers said.
Salute to Seniors marks the end of International Active Aging Week. Held each year during the last week of September, International Active Aging Week helps spread the International Council on Active Aging message that adults ages 50 and older are fully participating members of society while promoting the benefits of leading an active, healthier lifestyle.
Throughout that week, Gramatan Village and the Bronxville and Tuckahoe senior citizens will offer programs open to the public that promote healthy lifestyles. For more information about Salute to Seniors, email SaluteToSeniorsBxville@gmail.com.
