The concert took place at the Convention Center of the Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites in Liverpool during the 35th annual Band Directors Association symposium.

“James is an outstanding young musician who plays with dexterity, flexibility, accuracy and musicality well beyond his years,” middle school band director Sharon Slote said.

The young musician was selected for the honor band based on his evaluation at last spring’s New York State School Music Association Solo Festival and Slote’s recommendation.

He has studied the horn privately since the fourth grade and is currently a student of Peter Reit, a professor of horn at SUNY Purchase College, adjunct artist at Vassar College and member of the New York Chamber Brass.

The NYSBDA Middle School Honor Band was conducted by Nola Jones, a conductor of honor ensembles and the coordinator of the visual and performing arts for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools in Nashville where her duties include instructional supervision of 400 professional arts education specialists.
