During this monthly luncheon, Galchutt discussed the role that Lutheran leaders played during the Civil Rights Movement in Selma, Ala. in 1965.

"It was inspiring to hear of their (Lutheran leaders) courageous efforts almost 50 years ago,” said the Rev. Robert Hartwell, senior pastor of the church. “It is a reminder of the need to continue their work in our day."

Galchutt, who has been researching the Civil Rights movement, recently spent a semester as a visiting professor at a Concordia sister college in Selma.

The church's Music Ministry also is celebrating Black History Month throughout February with choral and instrumental music in the African-American tradition. For more information about the VLC and its programs, visit vlc-ny.org or call 914-337-3202.

The church is at 172 White Plains Road in Bronxville.
