Blue Ribbon Foundation Awards 'Librarian' Legacy Chapel School Scholarship

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Chapel School student Kendall Archer was awarded the Librarian Sharon Peterson Literacy Scholarship named for school librarian Sharon Peterson Finster (Osenberg) who is retiring this summer.

The scholarship was awarded June 5 at the baccalaureate service at the Village Lutheran Church. 

Sharon Peterson Finster (Osenberg) joined the Chapel School part-time in 1980 and became a full-time faculty member in the 1982 to 1983 school year. 

She is a graduate of Concordia Teacher’s College (now Concordia University-Chicago) and has a master's in library science from Rosary College in Illinois. 

In 36 years, Finster has built up and grown the children's library at the school, said the announcement.

"Mrs. Peterson," as student know her, has also been active in the VLC an Concordia College communities. She sings in the choir, plays hand bells, and leads a Bible study.

At school she is know for her passion for excellence in library resources, and especially for books and reading for the students.

The scholarship has been set up as a lasting legacy to her ministry at the school, said the release.

The Literacy Scholarship is funded through the Blue Ribbon Foundation, a non-profit foundation.
