For Jason Costa, giving back to his local community is about more than just fundraising. Its also about sending a positive message.
Thats why he and his team at New Rochelles A&N Heating Oil donated $2,700 to the Sound Shore Medical Centers Solomon Katz Breast Center last month. It's also why they painted one of their company's oil delivery trucks pink and white to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Our pink truck is painted those colors to raise awareness and were also donating to Solomon Katz Breast Center. The effort is two-fold, Costa said of his companys contribution.
The mission for the pink truck is to remind Westchester residents that early detection and screenings save lives, he said. The program has been running since Oct. 2010 and donates a penny from each gallon to the cause. Within the past year 250,000 gallons were sold.
He added that the truck is a testament to A&N Heating Oil's willingness to go above and beyond for its friends and neighbors. "Anyone can donate to a cause, but are you actually going to take a piece of your company's equipment and dedicate it to it?" joked the New Rochelle resident.
In my eyes, the reason I see it as a success is because customers are asking us to deliver in the pink truck, Costa said, adding the he also displays the truck at local parades, events and other gatherings.
A&N Heating Oil services nearby Westchester towns including Bronxville, Eastchester, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Pelham.
