Crawford died in a battle against British soldiers on Nov. 18, 1777 and is buried in Tuckahoe. Crawford was honored by the DAR a century ago by erecting a tablet on his burial site.

Now the monument has been rededicated with the wreath ceremony presented by current members of the DAR.

Among his many civic and historic contributions, Crawford has been credited with seconding the motion to approve the Declaration of Independence in 1776. He served as Scarsdale committeeman and deputy from Westchester County to the New York Provincial Congress,
