Each year Westchester Library System directors gather statistics about their libraries and submit the information to the consortium. The data is organized in a statistical report that describes library activities related to programming, collections and circulation for the previous year. It is a treasure trove of information about individual libraries, including year-over-year comparisons.
In 2013, the library system fulfilled an average of 2,311 reference requests per month, or nearly 28,000 per year.
The library circulated nearly 150,000 items in 2013; including books, audio books, DVDs, CDs, magazines and Kindles pre-loaded with new fiction and non-fiction titles. Total book circulation alone was 92,000. This information goes a long way to explaining why the circulation desk is so busy, in addition to the decision to consolidate the Children’s Room and Adult circulation functions. Also, the Bronxville Public Library circulation desk is ranked 15th (out of 38 libraries in the consortium) in the number of circulations handled for each hour open.
In 2013, the total attendance for library-sponsored programs was 18,584 visitors. This represents an increase of 63 percent over the previous year, which was just under 12,000 visitors.
