WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Embrace the season and head for the hills -- and orchards -- for apple and pumpkin picking -- and the quintessential outdoor fall experience (cider doughnuts optional).

  • Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard, North Salem: Grab some fruity gems on the trees, then head to the farm store where you can pick up apple cider, fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, and pork. Go: 130 Hardscrabble Rd., 914- 485-1210.
  • Outhouse Orchards, Croton Falls: Family-owned Outhouse Orchards has Rome Baldwin and Red Delicious varieties as well as a corn maze and hayrides. Go: 139 Hardscrabble Rd., 914- 277-3188.
  • Stuart's Fruit Farm, Granite Springs: Empire, Red Delicious, Pink Lady are more are yours to grab and bag at family-owned Stuart's where picking lasts from now through November. Go: 62 Granite Springs Rd., 914-245-2784.
  • Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm, Yorktown Heights: Apple picking is in full season here where riding the hay wagon to this week’s picking orchard (the location of which changes weekly as different varieties ripen) is part of the fun. There's also a winery. Go: 1313 White Hill Rd., 914- 245-5111.
