Each year, the Friends of the Tuckahoe Public Library enlists the help of the community by seeking new or lightly used books and other goods that can then be sold at the October book sale, with all proceeds benefiting the organization.

The Friends have requested that residents “do some early fall cleaning,” and are collecting donations of hard cover books, trade paperbacks, children’s books, DVDs, CDs and textbooks dating back to 2007. Donations can be dropped off at the library during operating hours – books should not be left outside the library after hours.

Encyclopedias, magazines, damaged or musty books will not be accepted.

The Friends of the Tuckahoe Public Library is a volunteer organization that promotes and supports the library. Every year it organizes countless cultural and educational events and programs to raise funds and awareness of the library in the community.

Children’s Librarian Ellen Tannenbaum said that the Friends and book sale are imperative to keep the library running fluidly and successfully.

“The Friends of the Tuckahoe Public Library play a vital part in our library,” she said .”They make great efforts to raise money, which, in turn, they donate back to the library to pay for some of our special programming. Among many others this year, the Friends helped fund all three of our summer reading programs.”

The annual Friends of the Tuckahoe Public Library book sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the weekend of Saturday, Oct. 25 and Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Tuckahoe Community Center. Donations will be accepted until then.
