For weeks, teams of local volunteers and officials have been busy working on overhauling the popular field, making it a more habitable location for both athletes and spectators alike.

The renovation began with the installation of fencing along the baselines and a new backstop, followed by concrete work. When players head to the dugout in the spring, there will be new benches, a concrete pad around the perimeter of the dugout and backstop, as well as new concrete steps. For eager onlookers, crews subsequently installed new bleachers and safety fencing to keep those in attendance out of the street.

A key aspect of the renovation was the installation of a new drainage system that will better keep the field playable following rainfall, as soggy fields have become a constant struggle for the Eastchester Little League, Tuckahoe High School softball team and a second softball league that is run through the Eastchester Recreation Department.
