BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Bronxville High School Students focused on their health, mental and physical, during the annual Student Faculty Legislature Day on Friday, Jan. 27.
They participated in a variety of health and wellness workshops; and more than 25 guest speakers, including teachers and community members, guided the students to achieve physical, mental and emotional balance.
“We chose to focus on wellness because we believe it’s important for students to be able to live happy and healthy lives while balancing the academics and extracurricular activities they participate in every day,” SFL President Aidan Flannery said.
One of the activities included Zumba, which introduced the students to a different type of exercise. Guest speakers included yoga instructors, physical therapists, psychologists, a chiropractor, an acupuncture specialist and more.
Students also made spontaneous art collages as a means of relaxation and self-reflection.
“The goal of the day was to bring awareness and remind students how important this balance of relaxation and health and wellness is in their lives,” SFL Vice President Fina Maldonado said. “As a culmination of the day, we all gathered in the auditorium and were led in a group meditation by Mr. [Bill] Meyer and reflected on everything we learned.”
Members of the Student Faculty Legislature Day, which is organized and run by students, choose a new topic each year. The student leaders, SFL advisor Dr. Victor Maxwell, Bronxville High School Principal Ann Meyer and parent volunteers arranged for guest speakers and coordinated workshops to provide the student body with a better understanding of the topic.
