Stand-Up Comedians Talk, Perform At Sarah Lawrence On Friday

YONKERS, N.Y. – Sarah Lawrence College is hosting “Talking Funny: An Evening with Stand-Up Comedians” on Friday at 8 p.m.

Presented by The Writing Institute, award-winning director, writer and producer Dave Steck will speak with stand-up comedians Negin Farsad, Wilson McDermut and Dan Wilbur, who will then each perform a short set.

This is the final event in “The Funny Thing Is…,” a three-part series of performances and analysis of the comedic process. 

Farsad was named a 2013 TED Fellow and one of the 50 Funniest Women by the Huffington Post. She produced, directed, wrote and performed in Comedy Central’s “The Watch List” and was nominated for the Emerging Comics of New York Awards.

McDermut has performed at the major clubs in New York City including Broadway Comedy Club, Caroline's on Broadway, Gotham Comedy Club and the Comic Strip Live. McDermut is also is part of the cast of the internet/radio show “3 Dudes and a Broad.”

Wilbur is a comedian, writer and avid video game player living in Brooklyn. His writing is featured on CollegeHumor.com, McSweeny’s and The Onion News Network. His first humor book “How Not To Read” is available now.

Steck has written, directed and produced comedy for movies, television and the Internet. He won a Webby for “Outstanding Broadband Comedy Series.” He was recently recognized with another Emmy Award nomination. He is the founder and executive director of the Yonkers film festival, YoFi Fest, a founding member of ARTY, Yonkers Arts Roundtable, the force behind Art-tober and a visual artist whose work has been shown in galleries in and around New York. He has taught at the New School and Jacob Burns Film Center.
