The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday on the front lawn of the Bronxville High School. Community organizations will have informational tables on Pondfield Road and many local businesses and restaurants will be offering "silver" discounts and specials for seniors. In the afternoon, the Bronxville Library will welcome all to a performance by Elvis tribute artist Dino Bravo. The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), the initiator of Active Aging Week, is dedicated to changing society's perception of aging. ICAA's mission is to improve the quality of life for older adults within the seven dimensions of wellness (emotional, vocational, physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, and environmental). Active Aging Week is an initiative designed to raise awareness and is now celebrated each year during the last week of September in the United States and Canada. Active Aging Week activities are free and emphasize fun, camaraderie, and education. This year Active Aging Week's theme is "Let the Adventure Begin!" During Active Aging Week, older adults are encouraged to stay physically and intellectually active. Even 10 minutes of physical activity three times a day/five days a week can offer long-term health benefits. Taking a course, learning a new activity, and joining with others for social interactions are all good habits to develop as we age. Staying connected to the community in meaningful ways prevents social isolation. All are welcome to join this special day for older friends and neighbors.

The day-long celebration of older neighbors is cosponsored by the Senior Citizens Council, Gramatan Village, and Bronxville Senior Citizens, with support from NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital and the Bronxville Rotary Club. For more information, email SalutetoSeniors14@gmail.com.
