Scarsdale-Based Orchestra Performs Best Of Czech Music

SCARSDALE, N. Y. -- The Scarsdale-based Hoff-Barthelson Music School Festival Orchestra takes the stage Dec. 10 in White Plains to perform its winter concert featuring guest oboist Gerard Reuter helping the orchestra perform "The Best of Czech Music."

Titled "Life and Nature: The Best of Czech Music," the concert will feature the music of composers Smetana, Martinů and Dvořák. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 468 Rosedale Ave., White Plains.

Jun Nakabayashi, music director for the orchestra, will conduct a program of Bedřich Smetana's symphonic poem "The Moldau;" Bohuslav Martinů's "Oboe Concerto H.353," featuring Reuter; and "In Nature's Realm, Op. 91" and the "Carnival Overture, Op. 92," two concert overtures from Antonín Dvořák’s trilogy of overtures "Nature, Life and Love."

Reuter is a solo performer who has toured the United States, Europe, India, Asia and Africa, orchestra officials said. His music also has been featured on radio stations in the United States and Europe.

The suggested admission is $18 but the show is free for students. For more details, visit the orchestra's website.

The Scarsdale-based Hoff-Barthelson Music School Festival Orchestra is a full symphony orchestra reserved for high school students at the highest level of technical ability and musical artistry, officials said. It is one of the only orchestras in the area selected by the New York Philharmonic as a partner in the new Philharmonic Academy Junior Program.
