The weekly market will run every Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until October 27.
This season, the market will introduce three new vendors to the Yonkers community: Red Hibiscus Bakery, General Cochran Farm, and Acevedo Farm.
Red Hibiscus Bakery’s mission is to “bring a little bit of the islands into each customer’s home.” Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, founder Farrah Fournillier incorporates New York-grown fruits and spices into her Caribbean baked goods that everyone can enjoy, specializing in vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free desserts.
George Hoffman of General Cochran Farm raises hormone- and antibiotic-free meats, dairy, and eggs with his family in Wassaic, N.Y.
Ernesto Acevedo of Acevedo Farm in nearby Goshen is a true example of a family farm and prides himself on growing quality vegetables by avoiding pesticides and best practices for the land.
The Get Fresh Yonkers Farmers’ Market will continue to feature hyper-locally grown produce and hydroponic vegetables from Groundwork’s Citizen Farmers and the world-famous Science Barge. Expect other quality local vendors, like Sololi, featuring colorful artisan jewelry, fabric and goods from Latin America and the Caribbean.
In addition, you'll find
- Guided tours of Yonkers’ adjacent Daylighted parks by trained members of the Green Team, a Groundwork summer youth employment program
- Colonial-era games, organized by Philipse Manor Hall
- Interactive garden-based art and science activities
- Musical performances throughout the season from local artists, including Solar Punch, a band that runs entirely on solar power.
- Local resources such as a pop-up library where visitors can sign up for a Yonkers Library card, voter registration, health screenings from HRH Care, SNAP Benefit signup, and more.
