YONKERS, N.Y. -- Sarah Lawrence Colelge Center for the Urban River at Beczak will celebrate the life of Joe Beczak, a Hudson River enthusiast who taught children about the Hudson in the 1970's, with a free Hudson River paddle on Thursday.
The event is sponsored by Yonkers Paddling and Rowing Club and will take place form 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. From 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., networking and refreshments will occur and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., a RiverTalks program will be held.
Beczak, along with a handful of other local river enthusiasts, volunteered to offer canoeing lessons to local Boy Scouts. The evening will include first hand accounts from Beczak's family and friends, as well as a special dedication ceremony.
Prior to the start of the program, the Yonkers Paddling and Rowing Club will offer short canoe paddles, harkening back to Beczak's many days on the Hudson.
