The workshop, funded by Creative Aging Grant and the Friends of the Bronxville Public Library, will be taught by fiber artist Anna Upston and is for adults 50 and over.

Temari are spheres that are relatively unknown in the United States although they have a long history reaching back for centuries in Japan. It is common for a Japanese mother to present temari to her children at the start of the New Year to represent joy.

Constructed of yarn, thread and recycled materials, the orbs are measured with folded paper, marked and embroidered with cotton thread into jewel-like works of art with a myriad of patterns.

The temari will be photographed as they are created and the finished pieces exhibited in the “Little Gallery” at the Bronxville Public Library, 201 Pondfield Road, on April 16.

Class size is limited. Interested older adults must complete and sign a participation registration form. Contact Joann Meehan at (914) 337-7680 ext. 31 to request a registration form. Prospective participants will be contacted once a class is formed.
