The special day gives the community a chance to reflect on the work physicians do every day as they take care of the sick and injured. Lawrence Hospital Center will honor its physicians with special activities.
Although people have been reportedly observing Doctors Day since the 1930s, it was made official, as a national day of recognition in 1958, when the House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating doctors. The day became official in 1991, when President George H.W. Bush signed a resolution that proclaimed the observance of a day honoring our country's physicians annually every March 30.
During National Doctors Day, a message of thanks in person, via email or a card and flowers are often sent. For those sending flowers, a red carnation is typically used as the symbolic flower for the special day.
People can also send a message of thanks to their doctor on the Lawrence Hospital Center Facebook page at Facebook.com/LawrenceHospitalCtr.
