Westchester PC Users Host Cybersecurity Expert

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The Westchester PC Users' Group will present Bob Gostischa, lecturer on technology and cybersecurity, at its monthly general meeting on Thursday in White Plains.

This presentation aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the loopholes and pitfalls of using a computer and browsing the Internet. It also aims to decrease the likelihood of you becoming a victim of the many common scams that await the uninformed user.

The program will take place from 7-9 p.m. at 120 Bloomingdale Road, first floor. Take the curved driveway on the right just past the building. 

Also included will be a discussion of programs that will keep you and your computer safe and secure. Gostischa will point out some basic computer safety tips as well as simple procedures that will increase your security. Discover the benefits of installing Avast on your computer so you’re protected against viruses, worms, trojans and rootkits.

Also covered will be the safety and security recommendations for the Android smartphone and tablet. Gostischa will simplify, clarify and demystify what you need to know to stay safe.

WPCUG general meetings are free and open to the public. Elenor Lindsay, the group's event manager, said, "As a nonprofit group located in Westchester County, the goal of Westchester PC Users' Group is to increase the computer knowledge of our 300 members. Our main meetings are held once a month. We have over 20 workshops that meet on a regular basis and discuss everything from beginner topics to the latest in programming languages."
