Texas Makes Bid To Steal Away Fairfield's General Electric

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- In the wake of a threat last week from the CEO of Fairfield-based General Electric to move out of the Nutmeg State due to the new state budget, Texas has reached out and promised a smaller tax bill, according to the Hearst Connecticut Media Group.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent a letter — obtained exclusively by Hearst Connecticut Media — to GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt on Wednesday trying to court the company to the Lone Star State.

A GE spokesman declined to comment beyond previous statements that the company has formed an exploratory committee to look alternate locations for its corporate offices, Hearst said.
