BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Workers from NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Bronxville took to the street recently for a candlelight vigil as they continue to combat the company over their wages.

Last week, protesters from the Local 11-99 labor union - which includes radiologists, surgical technicians and other hospital employees - posted up across the street from the hospital, demanding the end of a nine-month battle for a contract that dates back to October last year.

According to spokespeople with the 11-99 union, they have been negotiating in good faith, but since Lawrence was taken over by NewYork-Presbyterian - which is a part of the League of Voluntary Hospitals - they have been reluctant to increase wages annually.

The employer has reportedly offered a 1 percent increase on the current year and 3.5 percent over a four-year contract. Other employees outside of the union covered under the League of Voluntary Hospitals receive as much as a 3 percent increase annually and 13 percent over four years on the current contract. Members of the 11-99 union are also not included in the company’s current pension plan.

In a statement, NewYork-Presbyterian spokesperson Geoffrey Thompson said "(they) We have been negotiating in good faith with Local 11-99 and we will continue to work with the union to reach a fair contract for our employees. The hospital is operating normally and we remain committed to providing the highest quality, safest and most compassionate care and service to our patients."
