New Daycare Center Opens In Tuckahoe

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – When Karina Wyllie relocated her family from Long Island to Tuckahoe in 2010, the working mother found the local daycare options to be extremely limited.

Koala Park Daycare is now accepting students.

Koala Park Daycare is now accepting students.

Three years later, Wyllie opened Koala Park Daycare on Armourvilla Avenue, an in-home service that she owns and manages. It offers both full and part-time programs for children as young as six weeks old. After school care is also available.

Wyllie sites long daycare waiting lists, costly tuitions and limited local options as reasons why Koala Park is an ideal option for parents. She said there is an average wait of up to eight months for daycare space, with tuitions as high as $1,600.

“I talked to other mothers in the maternity ward,” Wyllie said. “One of their major concerns about having a baby was how they were going to find good and affordable daycare when they went back to work.”

The full-time schedule will run 10 hours each day, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The part-time schedule will include four-hour afternoon sessions from either 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Each program includes crafts, games, songs, dancing and meals. There will be a special weekly event and daily story time. Wyllie will be assisted by her mother, Liliana. Both are certified in infant, child and adult CPR, as well as health and first aid. Monthly tuition rates will vary. Those interested should contact the daycare center at (914) 337-0110 or contact.us@koalaparkdaycare.com.

“People should be able to go off to work with confidence that their children are being well looked after,” Wyllie said. “Children should be happy and fulfilled in their care setting. By starting Koala Park, I can help meet these needs and run a successful business as well.”
