On Nov. 29, there will be free parking in the Kraft, Garden and Avalon lots, Pondfield Road, in front of Chase Bank, Palmer Avenue and on Parkway Road.
Recently, in her weekly column that is disseminated by the Bronxville Daily Voice, Mayor Mary Marvin stressed the importance of shopping locally.
“Keeping local merchants viable has a multiplier effect, as they tend to use local banks, local accountants and architects, computer consultants, insurance agents, advertise in local papers and print with local firms, as well as hiring local residents and students,” she said.
According to Marvin, for every $100 spent locally, $68 of that is returned to the community. That same amount spent at a mall or chain returns just $48. Shopping done on the Internet yields no return for local communities.
“Shopping locally is a chance to take back control, a chance to deal with real people who understand what they are selling because they probably purchased the item,” the mayor continued. “A warm smile and friendly chat are worth something as well.”
In addition to free parking, residents will find a host of deals and discounts throughout town including 25 percent off at Bronxville Jewelers; 20 percent off any special orders at Savanna at Home, a $10 gift certificate off a future purchase at Maison Rouge when you spend $100 or more in their store that day, and lots more.
