BRONXVILLE N.Y. - After nearly two years of deliberations, the proposed three-story addition to Lawrence Hospital was approved by a majority vote at the Dec, 12 Bronxville Planning Board meeting.

The board voted 4-1 to approve the project estimated to cost $34 million and take 19 months to complete, said Timothy Hughes, the hospital's vice president of business development.

The expansion will add roughly 40,500 total square feet and 28,400 usable square feet. The project will include a radiation therapy center, a medical oncology infusion center and a new surgical suite with six state-of-the-art operating rooms. The new operating rooms will replace the existing ones that were built in the 1950s and are now below today's standards, particularly in size.

After much back-and-forth, the project now complies with village zoning laws for a final approval, said Planning Board Chairman Eric Blessing.

"We have made every effort to be thorough in including all comments and concerns that people have brought before this board since the project was first presented," said Blessing. "I think we've come up with the best product possible for everyone involved."

Lawrence Hospital will now be able to serve its patients more thoroughly than ever before, said Hughes.

"We've done everything that we possibly could've to get this project to where it is today," said Hughes. "We believe that these new additions will truly make the hospital better and will allow for people to receive the best treatment possible."
